Getting started

Do I need a referral to book?

No referral is needed. You can book directly online through our Jane App page any time, or call us and we'll help you get started.

How do I book my first appointment?

Book online at flutterby.janeapp.com, or call Calgary 587-496-0023 or Okotoks 825-250-8855. We're happy to answer questions before you commit.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes. We offer a free 15-minute discovery call so you can ask questions and get a feel for whether we're the right fit before booking a full session.

What happens in the first session?

The first session focuses on understanding your story — what brought you in, what you're experiencing, and what you hope will change. Most importantly, we begin building a trusting relationship where you feel heard without judgment.

How long are sessions?

Individual sessions are typically 50 minutes. We'll confirm timing and any options when you book.

Fees, billing & insurance

What are your fees?

Our standard individual session (50 minutes) is $220. Fees for some services may vary — for current rates and options, please contact us or check the booking page. We're glad to talk things through before you book.

Do you direct bill to insurance?

Many extended health plans cover psychology and counselling services. Coverage and direct-billing options vary, so we recommend checking your plan and contacting us to confirm what we can offer.

Will my benefits cover this?

It depends on your specific plan. Look for coverage under 'Psychologist' or 'Registered Psychologist' (and 'Counselling Therapist' where applicable), then reach out and we'll help you understand how it works.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask for advance notice if you need to cancel or reschedule so we can offer the time to someone else. The specific policy and any fee are shared when you book.

Our approach

What kinds of concerns do you help with?

We support anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, ADHD, autism, life transitions, relationships, parenting, sleep, anger, and more — for children, teens, adults, and families.

What therapy approaches do you use?

We tailor care to you, drawing on approaches like CBT, ACT, mindfulness, emotion-focused and attachment-based work, EMDR, somatic and play-based approaches.

What does 'neurodiversity-affirming' mean?

It means we see each person's wiring as part of who they are, not something to fix. We build on your strengths and shape support around your needs rather than a one-size-fits-all mould.

How many sessions will I need?

It varies. Some people come for a few focused sessions; others for longer-term support. We review progress together and follow your pace.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. What you share is private, within the legal and ethical limits we'll explain clearly at your first session (for example, situations involving risk of harm).

Children & families

Do you work with young children?

Yes. Children engage best through play, so we incorporate games and activities to help them feel safe and express themselves naturally.

Will you involve me as the parent?

Absolutely. We work collaboratively with caregivers and help you support your child's regulation and connection at home.

My child is neurodivergent — is your approach a good fit?

Yes. We're neurodiversity-affirming and centre your child's strengths, working in ways that feel safe and respectful to them.

Online & in person

Do you offer virtual sessions?

Yes. We offer secure virtual counselling to clients anywhere in Alberta, as well as in-person sessions at our Calgary and Okotoks offices.

Is virtual therapy as effective as in person?

For many people and concerns, yes. We'll help you decide what suits you best, and you can switch between formats as needed.

Which office should I visit?

Choose whichever is most convenient — our Calgary office is in the southwest (Southport), and our Okotoks office is on Southbank Street. Both offer free parking and step-free access.
